広島県に生まれた子どもは、“原爆は必要ない！” “戦争のない平和な世界になるように！”と考え、願い、伝え、行動しながら成長していくことが大切であると思っています。
Sun Class(５歳児組）の子どもたちは、国際バカロレア教育PYPプログラム【～この地球を共有すること～】というユニットで、自分たちの身近なことから、平和について探究しました。昨年度の平和について考えた経験を基に、子どもたちから「今年も鶴を千羽折ろう！」と声が上がり、平和を願いながら鶴を折り続けました。他の幼児組の子どもたちも少し手伝ってくれて、あっという間に千羽鶴が完成しました。
折っている期間も、佐々木禎子さんのことを調べたり、平和って何？平和になるために自分たちにできることは？など、たくさんのことを考えたりしました。
自分たちが、千羽鶴を届けたいという思いから、８月１日に園バスに乗って平和記念公園に行き、“平和の子の像”に千羽鶴を奉納し、平和な世の中になるように祈りました。
その後、広島平和記念資料館に行き、まず、初めにプロジェクションマッピングで映し出される原爆投下時の様子を見ました。建物が一瞬にして壊滅する様子を目の当たりに見た子どもたちは驚き、無言でした。
続いて伸ちゃんの三輪車と鉄兜、佐々木禎子さんが実際に薬紙を折って鶴をみました。短い滞在時間でしたが、子どもたちの心の中に平和の大切さが残りました。

The children in the Sun Class (5-year-old group) explored peace in their immediate surroundings as part of their inquiry-based learning. Based on their experience of thinking about peace last year, the children said, “Let’s fold a thousand cranes again this year! and they continued to fold cranes every day, wishing for peace. With a little help from the other children in the toddler class, they quickly completed the thousand paper cranes.
While they were folding the cranes, they also researched about Sadako Sasaki and asked themselves what peace is. What can we do for peace? What can we do to make peace happen?
On August 1, they took the school bus to Peace Memorial Park to dedicate 1,000 paper cranes to the “Children of Peace Statue” and pray for a peaceful world.
After that, we went to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, where we first saw a projection mapping of the scene of the atomic bombing. The children were amazed to see the buildings destroyed in an instant, and were silent.
Next, they saw Shin-chan’s tricycle and iron helmet, and Sadako Sasaki actually folded medicine paper to make cranes. Although the stay was short, the importance of peace remained in the children’s hearts.
